First of all, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to you for visiting this page and willing to know more about the TTPP project. Immense establishments for mining and infrastructure throughout the Southern Gobi region of the country prove that Mongolia has come to the historic phase in terms of its rapid economic development.

Advanced managing methods and modern approach towards cooperation are required to implement those mega projects and the “Tavan Tolgoi Power Plant” project is one of them. As time delay can cause cost increase and holds back the progress of the country, we make promptness as our top priority and try our best to avoid any mistakes during the implementation of the project.

I firmly believe that TTPP project will not only benefit development of Mongolia enormously, but also help reshaping the attitude of our decision makers towards establishment projects, furthermore, prepare trained personnel for future mega projects.

Project Objectives

Provide secure, reliable, cost effective long term source of power to South Gobi region, Ukhaa khudag (UHG) and the Oyu Tolgoi (OT) LLC’s mines; Reduce power import from China;
Provide reliable long term power supply to local area and secure the power needs of the region

TTPP Project Location

The TTPP site is located in the territory of Tsogtsetsii soum, Omnogobi aimag which is 95 km from the Dalanzadgad, 550km south of Ulaanbaatar and 254 km north of Gashuun Sukhait border port.

The Power Plant

The major mechanical systems of the TTPP include coal unloading station, Circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler, Steam turbine, Air-cooled condenser, Chemical Waste Drainage and Treatment System, Wastewater Collection and Treatment System, Ash disposal area, 220kV distribution line (DL) etc.


TTPP conceptual design is to be completed by an internationally recognized, experienced organization and offers detailed solutions to the efficient and reliable operation of the power plant.


Operation and maintenance (O&M) crews of the power plant are to be trained to monitor the operation of the power plant competently. In order to reach the best result in training, operation and maintenance crews are to be assigned to their positions prior to launching of the plant.
